East Central Mississippi Morning Update — Tuesday, October 13, 2026

Good morning, East Central Mississippi. It’s Tuesday, October 13th, and here is your day at a glance.

Tuesday’s Weather

More October heat on the way. Philadelphia tops out around 92 with an overnight low near 63, and Meridian runs about 91 and 61. Skies stay sunny all day, and the chance of rain is only about 10 percent this morning and 10 percent this afternoon — no umbrellas needed, and no weather alerts anywhere in the region. Tonight stays clear.

Local Events

The big one today is in Meridian: the Meridian-Lauderdale County Public Library holds its Fall Festival from 10 this morning until 2, and it’s free. They’re bringing in live magic shows, a petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, and food trucks. The library is at 2517 Seventh Street.

Up in Starkville, the library has a Kids Art Class at 4 this afternoon, and the PKL Fall Kids Camp over at the Greater Starkville Development Partnership wraps up at 4 as well, for families who signed the young’uns up for it.

Breaking News

In political news: former President Barack Obama has cut a 30-second ad for Mississippi Senate Democratic candidate Scott Colom, set to run on digital and radio statewide as part of a seven-figure media buy, according to Semafor. With Election Day about a month out, expect the airwaves to start getting busy.

Plan Ahead

Thursday night brings a big one to Philadelphia: gospel and R&B legend Mavis Staples plays the Ellis Theater at 7:30. Tickets are on sale now, so don’t wait on this one.

Also Thursday, the Meridian library keeps the October fun going with a Mini Pumpkin Craft for kindergarten through fifth grade and Career Connections for sixth through twelfth grade, both at 3:30.

Saturday morning from 9 to noon, Meridian hosts the DEB’s Special Needs Carnival — a free morning built for special-needs kids and their families.

And Bulldog fans, circle Saturday at 11 a.m.: No. 19 Mississippi State travels to Baton Rouge to face No. 21 LSU on ESPN. Quarterback Kamario Taylor’s status is still up in the air after his injury, so that one’s worth watching.

One more heads-up: a cold front moves through Friday, and Saturday looks like a different season entirely — highs only in the low 70s and lows in the mid-40s. Might be time to find that jacket.
